24-year-old Dutch sim racer Floris Wijers has won the final of the Heineken Player 0.0 sim racing competition. During the spectacular event at the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam, he competed against three international finalists from Canada, Mexico and Brazil, as well as three-time world champion Max Verstappen.
Exciting battle in the final
After a five-lap qualifying session, Floris Wijers started from pole position. In the eighteen-lap race on the virtual circuit of Zandvoort, he immediately drove away from the competition. Max Verstappen, who laughingly said beforehand that he had only practiced for twenty minutes, had a hard time and had to fight for his position.
A dominant victory for Wijers
Wijers kept his cool and crossed the finish line as a convincing winner. “It feels like a dream come true to race against the world champion and beat him,” said the proud winner. Verstappen eventually finished third, but handed his podium place to Canadian finalist Marc-Antoine Liboiron.
Tuatara contributes to this special event
For this international final, Tuatara proudly provided the sim racing gloves that the finalists, including Floris Wijers, wore. A special contribution to an event that takes sim racing to a higher level worldwide.
The Heineken Player 0.0 competition, a collaboration between Heineken and Max Verstappen, will return next year and expand to even more countries. For Floris Wijers, this victory is undoubtedly a moment he will never forget.
